Windows 8 forum: SD card reader

SD card reader

I just bought an HP P7-1414 with Wins 8. When I insert my SD card, the window that should popup to ask to what you want to do with the memory card doesn't popup. I can see it in "Computer" and can access it there but I don't have the choice of what to do. How do I get the popup to work?

Go to the Autoplay applet of the Control Panel

Go to the Autoplay applet of the Control Panel and set the options to your liking.

On her computer, I went to "computer", inserted an SD card and right click the device. It had a choice to "open autoplay", when I clicked it, it open the popup window that ask "what do you want to do with the memory card". On my computer, it doesn't have that "open autoplay" as a choice when I right click the SD card reader device. How do I add that in as a choice?

If http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/autoplay-faq does not resolve this then you have a warranty issue. Frankly with this OS mis-firing my vote is to return defective products quickly.

You could try HP tech support

I hate to suggest HP tech support because my experience with them has been very poor, but you could try them to see if they have an answer. If you don't get a good answer, you could try calling back in hopes of getting someone more helpful.
