Windows 8 forum: why am i getting a bsod when i try to upgrade from 7 to 8?

I just bought it in August new in box, not sure if it could be that dirty yet. Would that be something that would apply mainly to older pcs?

It could be incompatible in some way. Ask the maker if this machine is OK on 8. The big clue they tested it is the web site tells us it is.

It is an HP pavilion m-6 1035DX all standard parts, which has an AMD dedicated A10 apu graphics card

I don't see where you tell the forum you installed the drivers or the BIOS. The note on the BIOS writes.

Fix/Enhancement: - Provides support for systems running Microsoft Windows 8. "

It appears this update is required. Did you do that?

i downloaded all relevant drivers (there were 7 different wifi drivers but i downloaded my specific one), including the BIOS, and i tried again to no avail.

Same error, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If it's all updated and fails, go to HP.COM and click on their chat button to get the full install procedure.

I went to the link you provided, i downloaded every driver that was relevant to my system. I also clicked the BIOS update for AMD processors and updated it. It went thru a series of different screens and loading bars and never said anything failed.


Thanks again for the help. It took me a while to respond because i had finals and ive just been busy the past few weeks

With that out of the way, and it failing I have ONE last idea. As you know Windows in almost every iteration crashes on install on some machines if there is a printer plugged in. Be sure the machine has no extra USB devices that are not absolutely necessary.

One poor soul never unplugged the printer because they thought it would never work again. I fear they had to take the machine to the service counter over that.

I had a blutetooth usb receiver attached the first couple times I tried but i have since removed it, disabled all background tasks such as antiviruses, games, etc. I guess ill try their chat support.

thanks for the help, I was able to find a step by step procedure on installing. I guess I hadn't uninstalled the bluetooth device, i had only disabled it. Once i fully uninstalled, i tried again and BOOM. i got it.

I appreciate all the help!

It's an old old old issue that MSFT can't seem to squish.

How? Always create a spare admin account so you can get back in.
