I just installed windows 8 cp as a dual boot on a vista computer. All went fine and it is working. My question is I used vista disk management first to create the partition for windows 8 as an unallocated area. When I did it showed a max available to take from vista of 48xxx kb, I think that's right. It is a 160g hard drive and vista is only using about 20g. It did have a up and down arrow that I could have used to go higher but was not sure I could since it had the max it was said was allowed already in the space, Could I have gone higher? I have seen that number 48xxx somewhere else, what with that figure? Thanks slybo

I check and I believe that should be 48xxx MB. I was going to use half the hard drive which would have been closer to 75xxx MB but I am not very good at this and was afraid when it showed that the max to shrink the vista partition was that 48xxx. I am sure I am not explaining this very well, please ask me what you need to know from me to answer my question so I can learn from this. Thanks slybo

the Windows Disk Management utility will reserve a minimum for the C drive where the OS is installed, so on your 75GB drive, 48,000 MB, (roughly 48GB), sounds about right.

But I wouldn't worry about it, 20GB for Win 8 will be fine as you are only testing it.
