AMD Vs Intel processor

I have to replace my 8 year old Dell desktop soon. now using Windows XP, SP3. I Will use Windows 8.
Pricing a new computer, among other things, one thing seems to be outstanding that determines the price of a replacement machine. It is the apparent difference in cost between the AMD and the INTEL i3, i4,or i5. The price difference seems to be about $100.00 or more if I look at Intel i5 or i7.( i hope i didn't goof on the Intel product #'s).
For my general household use with no gaming, only light photo work, email and web surfing, email and use of Ms Office, will it matter much which I buy? A computer with the AMD is a lots cheaper. Will it be similar or would I see a great difference between using AMD Vs Intel' Thanks Mel

Sorry but for my work in VS2008, the other didn't work so well. Well worth 100 bucks to me.

AMD APU or a Intel i3 will do just fine. It's a either or situation. The AMD APU will probably offer a tad better graphics, depends on what would come with the Intel i3 setup. Keep in mind you said only light photo work.

If all your using this for is photoshop, email, and internet an I3 from intel will be perfect. The amd will also work, I prefer Intel but that is just personal preference.

I have used Intel i3 processor in laptop for around a year and having a great experience with it. For fast stunts racing games and action movies and if you would like use software like CDR or Adobe then must go for it. Though, you can have a look on AMD Phenom series also my brother is using it again a better option you can opt.
