missing file 0x80070002

I have been unable to do a backup of my computer due to a missing file 0x80070002. I have been all over the internet to try and resolve this problem and so far have had no luck. I'm wondering if anyone else out there has had this problem. I am running Vista 64 if that is of any help. If anyone knows how to resolve this problem I would greatly appreciate your input. I am very computer savey so simple terms and directions would be required, happy Thanks, Mary

Sorry but with many other backup software available.

Why not try other titles? The official answer may be to restore the machine to it's factory load but given I can use other backup software (free or paid) I don't see why you should try to use Vista's backup software any further. It's proved to be unreliable so why not a new backup software?

And no, I have yet to see Microsoft issue a solid fix for this one.

Thanks Bob for taking the time to answer. I'm laughing at the moment as a friend stopped by today to help me and he was able to find a restore point from awhile ago and restored my computer to that date. Now the computer wants to do an update but for some unknown reason it isn't able to because there is no backup folder to put the information in. ARGGGGG! So when I read your reply I had to laugh because you've hit the nail on the head with Vista's backup system, it stinks and now I don't even have one. LOL I will have no choice now but to try something else for my backup or will do as you suggested and do a complete restore to factory settings of my computer. That was going to be my next step until this friend stepped in to help. Thank you so much for taking your time and responding to my plea for help, it is greatly appreciated. Mary

Here's what I use.

Sorry but I didn't reveal what I use and it's a multi-pronged approach to backup.

1. Goodsync or Syncback for files to my drives or other places.
2. Dropbox has a few files that I can't lose. Once you figure out dropbox you see how it makes files hard to kill.
3. CLONEZILLA when I want an entire full backup to some external USB drive. This is something I run overnight.
