Acer Travelmate lcd shows all pixels twice in 2px distance

I have a rather tricky issue with my Acer Travelmate 5620 lcd.
The screen appears to be printing every pixel twice at a horizontal distance of 2 pixels. Image taken with a digital camera
I have already done the following troubleshooting:
- replaced lcd and lcd cable
The result is the same except for a black vertical 2 pixels thick line that used to show on the old lcd.

If I take a printScreen picture the error doesn't show. As far as I understand, this would mean the video card is correctly rendering the image.

However the error shows exactly the same way on the bios screen.

Where else should I look for errors? What would be the next steps in troubleshooting?

Since you are trying to fix this yourself, there is only one part left which is the motherboard.

I admit I was afraid of getting this answer, but it makes sense, of course.
Do you know where I could get a Travelmate 5620 motherboard at a decent price and shipping time?

There are very few parts if we get past the screws, small parts that do not matter when it comes to the display, battery and such.

I have to make some assumptions when folk do laptop repair and that's my fault. For example did you?

a) Try the generic reset noted in the Laptop Troubleshooting forum?
b) Try an external monitor?
c) Try Linux from a LiveCD?
d) See the issue in the BIOS setup screen?
