I have an Acer Aspire 5610 laptop that gets hot and shuts down. The fan works when I first turn on the machine but then stops shortly after. The cooling system is crystal clean, the CPU repasted with Arctic Silver 5 ( I did the repasting twice just to make certain that I didn't apply too much paste. It has a clean install (just today) of Windows Vista Ultimate. Using Speedfan I see the the cpu runs at 47C - 53C. After it shuts down the bottom of the computer is very hot in the cpu area. I do not hear or feel the fan come on except for when I turn the computer on initially, even when the computer gets extremely hot on the bottom. Since the fan does run at start up it doesn't seem like the fan is at fault, seems more like a temp sensor that signals the fan to come on. How can I test the CPU temp sensor that signals the fan to come on and is it a servicable item? Other than the shut downs due to the overheating this is a great little computer and I would like to be able to fix the fan issue. If the sensor cannot be serviced then how can I hook up the fan so it runs all the time? I know that will suck in dust like crazy and be noisy but at least I'll be able to use the computer on the odd occasion that I need it. Is there perhaps a driver for the fan control that I am missing?
