Acer Aspire M1100
Originally, my desktop computer had 2GB PC2-4200 DDR2 RAM. I attempted to add an extra pair of 1GB RAM sticks. Although 4GB of RAM would show up in my system properties, it was unsuccessful because the audio would come out as loud blips of static. Also, my resolution would change and my computer seemed to not recognized my video card. I couldn't even start games. So I figured the RAM was faulty and i purchased another pair of 1GB RAM sticks. Same problem. However, no matter what pair of sticks were in the computer, it would always work with just ONE pair of sticks. So I figured that my computer was only acting up if there were four sticks of RAM in it. This led me to buy a pair of 2GB sticks. Still the same problem with only two 2GB sticks. I am now stuck with these extra RAM sticks and only 2GB will work in my computer. I have attempted to update my audio and video drivers, as well as retry the sticks in all possible positions and combinations. Here is my audio and video info:
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 512MB memory latest drivers
Realtek High Definition Audio latest drivers

Clarification request: How did it get Windows 7?

I have two other acers of similar nature and they do not run Windows 7.

Reading http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/aspirem1100/aspirem1100sp2.shtml I don't see Windows 7 as a supported OS. It's likely the chipset driver that maps this RAM and the motherboard chips is not supported in Windows 7.

Ask Acer what motherboard drivers should be used (it was not at the Acer web site) and be sure the BIOS is current.

The first time I tried the new RAM in my computer, it had Windows Vista 32bit (even though my actual computer could support a 64bit OS). Then i just simply upgraded to Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

And there is no known upgrade path from Vista 32 to 7 64 bit

And since there is no Windows 7 drivers at the site it looks like the best action is to use a supported OS.

It was the same exact problem on vista 32 bit

It appears the product has a maker's defect. I want to ask that you supply such details up front so I don't lose replies or turns looking into a dead end.

If I had known about the original issue I would have researched this one differently.

I have a few machines that do similar with 4GB and pulling back to 3GB worked. These are Vista era machines too from various makers.

PC Hardware to be relatively new in my world would be 2 or more years young,
