When I transfer data from my hard drive to my s2 1 terrabite samsung external hard drive the speed is only going at 25 Mb/s. I believe it shopuld be faster. i am using the usb3 port, and the file types are the same. Can my anti virus be slowing it down. I thought it could be the HDD speed (though I don't really understand it), the aspire runs at 5,400 apparently, and the extternal at 7,400, is this the problem? if so Acer should be shot for providing the usb port on an unsuitable laptop. Any help would be appreciated. By the way it took 4 hours to transfer 350 Gb

If you look at the Dell discussions on this, some find newer drivers help. I do not want to mislead you on which driver. Please ask Acer.

Thanks, i have looked at the driver and it is apparently up to date according to my windows 7. will see hgow I can get in touch with acer

It's been over a decade and asking Windows if the driver is up to date has failed consistently. It pains me to point this out again.
If you want to ask something, try the maker's web site and driver page for your model.
If you want to ask someone, try the maker's support lines.
Sorry if I was unclear.

Thanks again I'll check the drivers with acer. I believe this is down to the number of files especially small ones I am transferring. I copied a movie (single file) to my external today and it went at 60Mb/s

It's OK then. Smaller files have a big overhead for maintaining the directory and the FAT.
Transferring 1 MB file is a snap. Transferring 1000 files of 1 KB takes MUCH longer, to whichever destination you choose.
That's not only so when copying to an external disk, but also for copying to another machine in the LAN or even to another internal disk (or partition) in your PC. Easy to experiment with.
