Google shipped AUS/GB Nexus 4 phones to US customers

Google apparently shipped Nexus 4 phones destined to the UK/GB/AUS market to US customers.
This is creating a lot of headaches with repair issues since LG refuses to service the phone
stating that it was sold outside the US.

I have a cracked screen on my Nexus 4 and have spent a lot of time on the phone between Google and LG. So far there is no resolution in sight, although Google said that are looking into it further. LG has been utterly unhelpful.

So far, cracked screens are outside the normal warranty. I've seen many faces turn red and shouting matches over a cracked screen. It makes me think folk that can't accept such losses need that drop and spill warranty.

I fully accept responsibility for the cracked screen. The problem was that Google provided no help at all to persuade LG to take the phone and have it repaired, of course, at my expense. LG did not want to take it
since they said it was for the AUS/GB mstkry and Google told me that I needed to contact LG in Australia to arrange to have it fixed through LG's Australian office.

Sadly we are approaching the day the devices are not repairable. The reason is very simple. To drive the cost down we remove... Wait a second, let me preface this that I design electronics and more. I am not in the cell phone area much but here goes.

To drive down the cost you remove every little thing you can. If you had two parts that had a cable and 2 connectors you can save a lot by hard soldering the 2 together. However you may have removed any field depot repair possibility.

Yes, you can make it cheaper (not talking about quality but real money) at the expense of repair becoming impossible in the field.

I know this does not help but I thought I'd share where the industry is headed.
