Share contacts between two phones?

I have an Android phone and I just bought one for my wife as a gift. I would like her to be able to share my contacts with me and keep them synced - so I'm not talking about a one-time export and import.
Ideally, I would be able to share only certain contact groups, but in a pinch, I'll share all of my contacts if that's the only way to do it. I want this in real time. So, when she's on her phone, if she makes a change, it shows on my contact list on Gmail and on my phone and vice versa. As another option, I'd settle for her having read access to my contacts (preferable selected groups) while having full read/write to her own. I do not want her to read/write my email. Can someone tell me how to do any of this?
She'll share some of my calendars and I'll share some of hers; but there's obvious mechanisms for that.
Also, if she has a tablet, can she just set it up with the same Gmail account as her phone and have the tablet and phone automatically stay synced?
