But here I find that Settings, Security is where it is across 6 other Android devices. I'd start there.
As to the pictures, on most cards I find pictures taken with the camera under the DCIM folder just like most cameras.

Thanks R. Proffitt. I have already checked in the Security section. There I only have options to back up my data and another similar choice, can't remember what. Nothing about setting passwords. Someone told me that you can't set password in Galaxy phones without using 3rd party software. Is that a fact?
Remember I don't have the Galaxy.

There is a fine Samsung Ambassador in the CNET Samsung Forum that I suggest you ask next if your research tells you otherwise.
Just wondering. What has your research turned up?
Later today I'll check out my son's Samsung phone. It's not the Galaxy.

page 31 shows the password in Settings, Location and security.
Now that the phone is locked, the files are password protected!

a phone, via the "location and security". There are third party apps that can lock individual applications, but in terms of what's built into the phone, it's just locking the phone in general.

Since the OP requested no other software, we are left to look at what locks exist.
Have you noticed that many users of cell phones, HDTVs and such "devices" are looking for features we had in the common Apple and Windows PC?

I have done so for years using file ownership and permissions via NTFS.
I'm sure the same is on MacOSX.
