Rooted EVO and 2.3 Gingerbread OTA update

2.3 gingerbread is coming out for my EVO this week and I have a question. I am rooted, with unrevoked, but only to allow certain apps, like tether, I am still running the same HTC sense. can I do the OTA update or do I have to unroot my phone before I do the update

You can still run the OTA update on your rooted Sense rom, but doing so will unroot your phone after the update is applied.

so the OTA update will unroot it for me and I will have to reroot the EVO once it's done? How do you know this. sorry to sound skeptical, but I really really don't want a brick after I update to 2.3

Yes, the OTA update will unroot your phone. However, industrious fellows are at work at this very moment to provide you with new, "stock" rooted ROMs that will consist of this latest software version (meaning whatever is applied in the OTA update) as well as the basics for rooting (superuser, busybox, various other apps the developer decides to include).

A quick trip to google ("new evo root ROM" or something similar) should provide you with a few links to stock root ROMs. As an alternative if you don't like using ROMs, you can go back to factory defaults (which will remove root, I think, as well as any and all data and apps you have), or somehow unroot (Google is your friend, again) it, apply the update, then reroot it.

i accepted an update on my rooted EVO and it doesn't appear to be working. I have a white triangle w/a yellow exclamation point and a little blue android guy. how long should this update take? thanks in advance for your help.
