Panasonic forum: DVD's/ Blu-Ray's running fast on my Panasonic TX-L4E5B

That makes a lot of sense, seems like it must be the problem, thank you. I've never played anything non PAL on it so I don't know why it changed, but I'll look any 60hz settings. I briefly thought this might be the problem before, but some of my Blu-Ray's play at 24hz though and the TV display still says 24hz when they're playing so that put me off it. Is it still possible that something being set to 60hz would affect those?

It was a region thing. Or a firmware that was for another region. Or a region setting (do you see a theme here?)

The only reason I know a thing about it is that folk are trying to get say, Netflix or other things to work and they tinker in the settings to change it so the set reports it's from another area.

AND we have the foul ups. Some device is bound to get an update wrong and flip out to a NTSC region.

Why I got so fixated on region is, well, the story matches what I've run into.

I suppose it's possible someone in the house pressed a wrong button or something and ended up on NTSC settings, I really can't think what though. I guess since it happened in the middle of a film when I rewound it I can narrow it down to something that would only take a button press to screw up. When I reset it to factory settings it asked for a country and I chose UK, would that not fix the region?

...my limited experience with UK Panasonic models (used mostly while in Poland), tells me that they tend to auto-adjust for such situations, since they can accept/play back most NTSC programming, in addition to PAL, especially via HDMI. It's the opposite situation here in the U.S. Our (typical retail store bought) HDTVs are not compatible with PAL. IOW, there's no region setting on the HDTV the end user can alter. Just for kicks, see if any of the (default) colour settings have been changed on your HDTV. That's the only user accessible setting which could dork up things a little, other than perhaps altering the type of connection, which you obviously aren't changing.
