DMR-HW220 sound won't come out of SC-BTT362 speakers

I have a Panasonic TV TX-L42ET5B and Panasonic home cinema SC-BTT362 connected via the TV's HMRC2 ARC. I have an old non-HD PVR in AV1 and Wii in AV2. All work well together, the home cinema automatically switching onand off with the TV and all sound coming out of the home cinema's speakers. I wanted a HD PVR so have just bought a Panasonic DMR-HW220. I cannot get the sound to come out of the home cinema's speakers - if I plug the DMW-HW220 direct into the home cinema, or into the TV, as soon as I switch the DMR-HW220 on, the home cinema goes off. How do I set it up so that the sound does come out of the home cinema speakers? I bought Panasonic for compatability and to avoid these problems.

That's the breaks. I continue to find myself adding optical cables when it fails. The good news is I don't do tech support for the companies so I only nod when folk want ARC to work.

Optical Cable

Hi R Proffitt, Are you saying that if I connected an optical cable between the PVR and the Home Cinema, the sound would automatically come out of the Home Cinema speakers when the Home Cinema input is set to ARC? Or would I have to go into the Home Cinema menu and change the input to optical every time I wanted to use the PVR?
I have continued experimenting and have got it working - but in a convoluted way. When the PVR is plugged into HDMI1 on the Home Cinema, I can get the sound to come out of the Home Cinema speakers if I go into the Home Cinema menu and change the input to HDMI1. But when I switch back to the TV I have to first go back into the Home Cinema menu and change input to ARC. I want to avoid having to keep changing input manually. My old PVR in AV1 never requires any change of input in the Home Cinema menu - it is always ARC and always works.
Any help much appreciated.

I'm sharing what I'm seeing and doing. Some folk want me to give some guaranty that adding the cable will fix it. I can't give that guaranty but will share what I'm seeing and doing. It's a shame the industry didn't get their act together on ARC.
