I recently purchased a Panasonic TCL47E50 less than two months ago. The TV has met all of my expectations, and it is my first HDTV. However, I've begun to notice vertical banding - vertical, translucent lines that almost look like shadows, and range in width from 1" to 4" across the entire screen. This is PARTICULARLY noticeable when I have been watching olympic soccer or MLB baseball games with the green background when the camera is panning or following the action quickly. You can see it at other times when there is a bright background and the camera is moving, but not nearly as much. I have ruled out that this could be an HDMI cable or HDMI input issue. This is a 120hz TV, so it should not be a refresh rate issue IMO - again, I'm a first time HDTV user, so maybe I'm wrong about that?
I've done some searching online and it appears to be a fairly common problem w/ LCD/LED tv's, and from what I understand I may just have to deal with it. Many of the posts I've seen about this problem were on UK or Australian forums (I'm in the States here) and particularly when people watched soccer. I have a Panasonic technician coming to my house this week since it is still under warranty and am curious as to what he will say.
Initially Panasonic DENIED my claim for warranty service as their customer service determined it was not a "serviceable issue." However, after some minor grumbling they agreed to send someone out.
Is this an issue that others have dealth with? Is it a LCD panel problem like I've read about? Calibration issue? Being a first time HDTV owner I'm trying to cover all bases here and appreciate any feedback and/or insight. Thanks!
