Temperamental safari performance !

My Macbook , 2GHz Intel core 2 Duo, about 6 years old has been of great service to me, albeit with generous support from the Cnet forum moderator.
It has 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory and a 2GHz intel 2 DUO processor. The Safari version 4.1.3 (4533.19.4) and Camino .
It has developed an unfortunate fault of reluctant Safari performance.
When I open it first thing in the morning it works great. After a few moments it becomes difficult to move from one web page to another. Using the Hotmail, it would get stuck after the second W in the http://ww. It shows thus far highlighted but does not move any farther. It shows a similar result with my home page, although it will open it fine in the first place. It takes an enormous amount of time to open the hotmail inbox. It shows the page with clear number of emails but clicking to open the inbox takes more than a couple of minutes to show the drop-down manu.I have reset the browser and cleared the number of things to no avail. If I restart the computer it opens the home page but I got to wait for the hotmail to open. This is not consistent, at times it goes through with a hitch. Most times it is very obstinate, and makes you think of doing nasty things. There is an issue with many emails sending.
