Version Tracker Pro vs. the New cNet Tracker App?
by Jefferis Peterson - 4/9/10 5:52 AM
HI folks, I'm just curious of others' experiences. It is time for me to renew VersionTracker Pro, but now cNet has this new Tracker App for free. I thought that the App was telling me about a bunch of programs that it said were out of date that were current, but now that I look at it more closely, it SEEMS that the App is seeing more programs that need to be updated that VTPro is missing. Also, VTPro software seems to be an orphan and isn't updated regularly. The only advantage of VTpro seems to be that it installs updates for you with a click....
But if it isn't staying current, spending $50 is kind of a waste, esp. if it is EOL and being replaced by the App...
The one thing that has always bothered me with VTP is that when an install is complete, the "okay" dialog box remains hidden behind other windows. Finding it is often a beast even when calling the program to the front...
TIA,
Jeff
