Ram Upgrade: Crucial or Corsair

Hi everyone. I have decided to upgrade my Dell Studio 1555 from 4 GB of RAM to 8 GB of RAM. I have decided between two options, which have a significant difference in price. I am looking for the better choice, putting performance/quality first and price second. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. happy

you get what you pay for. TYPICALLY performance wise the more you pay the better performance you get. We see alot of question on these forums which is the better or best laptop or the best gaming laptop for 400.

I understand what you're saying. However, the specs on both products appear to be the same.

Specs for Crucial are as follows: CL=6-Unbuffered-NON-ECC-DDR2-800-1.8V-DDR2 PC2-6400-512Meg x 64. I assume the CL=6 signifies 6-6-6-18 latency.

Specs for Corsair are: CL=6-6-6-18-Unbuffered-1.8V-DDR2PC2-6400 800 MHz ( PC2-6400).

I have come to understand that both are respectable companies, I just wonder why the price difference is so high when each seem to have the same specs. I have read from various sources to go for the cheaper RAM, but could not find anything about this memory chip in particular. I have no experience purchasing any computer parts and would like to make a wise purchase decision.

Does anyone know if the latency is the same for both cards, as Crucials specs only say "CL=6"? Also, I hear that Crucial makes their own hardware, could this have anything to do with the lower price?

That's Micron and Crucial is their finished product outlet. Sorry but there are 20 parameters to check on RAM so I rarely do that anymore. Find an electronics gearhead and have them check all the specs. It's much more involved than CL and latency.
