Dvd cd not detected and not shown under Computer and DM

Help please, I tried the regedit and I went to Windows Automated Troubleshooting Services. It said it cd dvd rom not detected. I also down loaded a driver from the hp forum. The notebook is a hp pavilion dv 6812nr. The light comes on on the drive and it opens up. When I put a disk in, it sounds like it tries to read it then nothing. I have been working on this problem for a week now. Also not under Device manager. Help please!!!

What driver? None are needed today.

It's a shame folk spend time looking for the mythical cd/dvd driver. I don't want to upset you but there has not been such a driver since about 1998.

The only bad news is this is a dv6000 model. You can google the problems with that line but I'd see if a recovery disk boots or not to sniff out if the drive is just dead.
