Dell hardware

I have recently had some rather bad experience with Dell desktops and laptops and I would like to see what forum members opinions about dell desktops and laptop quality is like in general. I bought a Dell Studio desktop approximatly two years ago and a Dell Dimmension M5030 about a year ago. The desktop has a malfunctioning hard disk controller and the laptop can not download and install Window 7 SP1, I am discussing the issue elsewhere in the Windows 7 forum. What I would like to know is do you have a favorable or unfaborable opinion of Dell quality?

No issues at the office.

But there the failures are easy to figure out why they are so high. 99% of the office has Dell so 99% of the failures are Dells.

There are many issues with drivers and more that we can discuss but here, I don't have any indication that "Dell is bad."

Given all the malware, registry cleaners and more, why would the SOFTWARE FROM MICROSOFT reflect on Dell here? Many could not install SP1 for lots of reasons.

The hard disk controller is something interesting to me. Just last month I had someone claim such a thing because XP SP3 Pro would not install. Well, that was hard to contain myself as we discussed SATA and XP issues.

Dell

For the most part I have seen pretty good results with Dell hardware and as far as I am concerned, overall, they are as good and better than most when it comes to ready made boxes and laptiops. Recently I replaced (upgraded) a friend of mine's office with 2 new Dell i5 systems, that replaced a couple of 11 year old Dell XP units, the total issues over the 11 years of use were: A video card 6 years ago and a power supply 4 years ago. For all the use these two systems got over 11 years I think that is a pretty good testimonial for Dell's quality in general. As far as laptops are concerned they seem as good if not better than a couple of the other major manufacturers on the market today. Software issues are another matter entirely and for the most part, in my opinion, many and most problems (with software) are created by the user in one way or another.
