The link I supplied was an example of where the ISP does not seem to want to report outages.

This can result in the users (like you) wasting everyone's time trying to fix it.

If you were stuck with one email provider, you may have not learned why that's a bad idea.

Regarding your comment (This can result in the users (like you) wasting everyone's time trying to fix it), may I apologise for users like me wasting everyones time for a problem that was causing me a problem! I had thought, in my ignorance, that people far more knowledgable than myself might be able to guide through a fix. Clearly I was was wrong! Users, like myself who seek help via this CNET forum, beware, you are more likely to recieve a sarcastic non informative reply from some expert.

I do most my sincerely apologise for wasting your time Bob.

I will henceforth close down all dealings with CNET for fear of wasting peoples time.

I googled that 0x800ccc90 error for you. This is what I found:
Error 0x800CCC90 usually happens when your password is unable to be verified by the POP3 server. As a result, you can't connect to the server. It may also occur if your mailbox cannot be accessed by your e-mail client. If you encounter this error, it means that there was an invalid response from the POP3 server. Besides that, another reason for it to occur is if there is a malfunction or problem with the mail server. If this is the case, then you won't be able to do anything about it and should just wait for some time and try again.

How could anybody on these forums be able to fix such an error?

Also I noted that you didn't report back what they said when you contacted their helpdesk. That really is the best way to attack this problem.

when I'm trying to access email and another device is accessing my email account at the same time. This type of error is more common using a pop3 server then an imapi email account like google.

I posted a result I got from MS when I googled the error but he also may want to try to create the account again. I wouldn't delete the one with the problem until he's sure it works. Define a new account using an pop2 account that names the pop3 server and the SMTP server.

I offered the prior discussion because not only was it a good example but we were about to get even deeper by Telnetting to the mail server.

But as you can read it all came back to life as the server was rebooted or something done on the ISP's end.

It's a shame this wastes everyone's time but I had hope you would see this for what it was and learn why folk must have a second email account for backup.
