Thankx for ur replay.

My fan doesn't work and unable to find online. I just send mail to manufacture regarding fan. Might be they stop manufacturing but not sure. Just waiting for replay. In mean while can i use external fan, I just want to know is there any side effect if i use just external cooling fan.

Since the internal fan blows air directly over the processor, and an external fan only cools the outside of the case . . . I'd suggest you make every effort to find a replacement. Care to share the make and model of the laptop? Maybe we can help.

With two other folk looking for the part...

But there is that OTHER problem. What is that? I did repair such a fan a few years back. The fan was fine but there was no power at the fan's power plug on the mainboard.

Since that was a motherboard failure we had to chat with the owner about options. They decided to take the option of hooking up the fan to another power source in the laptop. Remember that I design electronics and had a good idea about what to do. Your average tech might be OK at this but chances are less they know how to accomplish this.

Are you sure it's the fan?

Yes problem with fan. When I unplug fan from motherboard, laptop start normally. However I got replay from Toshiba and they gave me a part no.

It's possible the fan is shorted out, but did you test for that?

I don't know how much the members in this discussion know but a fan is a simple device (compared to what else is in the laptop) and I could take it to the bench to apply about 5 to 12 Volts to the leads to see if it works or is shorted.
