Monitor broken - laptop (Asus) not turning on

So my poor Asus G51Vx-A1 has been through a lot. I was in a serious car crash in April and somewhere in the 4 rolls it got ejected from the vehicle (it was supposedly found on the side of the road, but I'm not sure if thats true as I was in the ambulence). It came out of the crash fine except for the casing over the hinges were off and a small crack in the monitor casing.
Skip forward to October and the crack up the side got bigger and then somehow the hinge on the right side got all nasty and the laptop wouldn't close properly. Because I was away at school, I decided to wait until Christmas when I could get back home and have our family computer guy take a look. It worked fine if I help the monitor in place and made sure it had connectivity in the wires, but the other night the monitor finally died and with it it shut off the entire laptop.
I tried hooking up the laptop to another laptop via HDMI so I could get my Skyrim fix, but the laptop still won't turn on. I know pretty much nothing about wiring or why this would happen, but if someone could give me some suggestions as to what is happening or why then maybe I can save time and pass the info along when I go to get it checked out. If the entire thing is screwed, I guess I'd also like to take in that possibility and start grieving now as well
Thanks!
