Power Supply for Laptop

On a boat, use laptops powered by inverter (12 volt to 120 volt). Inverter produces modified sine wave, but "bricks" seem to smooth out current so laptops work OK except Toshiba Satellite A250 which will not work on this modified sine wave. Can the Toshiba be modified or otherwise programmed to operate on current from these inverters?

Some makers were slammed over the battery fire and brick problems and tightened up the designs as well as locking out non-maker batteries and adapters.

I'd swap that laptop out for one that works.

In parting most bricks are ok with this since they are rated for 100 to 240 VAC and 50 to 60 Hz.
