Miscellaneous laptop discussions forum: How long should a high end laptop computer last?

Not sure about her cleaning...probably not what it should be. She did not use a cooler under it as I suggested and this might have helped.

I have one that is about 6 months newer but the same HP model line and it runs perfectly, having replaced c drive, dvd drive and installed Windows 7 Professional and I have it on a cooler.I pretty careful but can probably improve by using the canned air on the air ducts. <div>
I have thought I would get a computer vacuum to use on the keyboard.Any more suggestions, I am all ears.

I am probably going to get a top line Acer Aspire AS8943G-6782 (new 18" model) or a Qosmio X505-Q888 also a 18".....which one do you think is the best?It is a lot of money to spend so I want to get the best one...I read a lot of reviews and they lean toward the Qosmio?

You can find out more by heading to google and typing DV9000 RECALL. If it got 4 years, it was one of the longer lasting units.

But why are folk looking at such big laptops? You find those bigger units to have shorter life spans as well probably due to more flex in the package to power and heat. Nice units but figure 4 years less if a gamer is on the machine.

upgrade to the 8943G. The 8943 had some wireless issues at first but I think they have been fixed. Now if you can afford the Acer 8951G. It has the backlit keyboard and a 750 GB hard drive and the removable touchpad that acts as a remote.

In comparing the 8943 and the Qosmio. I would say your getting more for the money with the toshiba. The only area that Acer model has the advantage is internal memory. (8 gb to 4 gb). The Toshiba has a 7200 RPM Hard drive compared to a 5400 for the Acer. The graphics card on the Toshiba is better fro gaming as it has DDR5. ( 1 gb of DDR5 is better then 2 gb DDR3 and the Acer only has 1 gb of DDR3). Battery life is better on the Toshiba. They both are > 10 pounds. (my Acer 8950 is around 8 pounds in almost the same case.)

I think you are getting more for the dollar is purchasing the toshiba over the Acer.

It was all of 4.77MHz so I know the feeling. But it didn't fail.
