I have Windows 7 on my Toshiba laptop computer. If I were to take my computer to a park bench, how would I connect to the internet? Thank you. user470

Assuming there's no wired Ethernet connection at the park bench, it would have to be wireless.
There might be free WiFi (a 'free hotspot') available, like at Starbucks. But just as well (even more likely) you would have to take a subscription or go-as-you-internet (pre-paid) contract with one of your local ISP's. Those come with a USB-dongle as a receiver.

Connecting to WiFi isn't much different from connecting to your wireless Internet at home (or at your work, a friend or a family member). Just find somebody with a wireless router and let them show you, if necessary.
The general idea is that you see a popup telling you that wireless networks were detected. Then you click on that and follow the instructions/
If you follow the suggestion from orlbuckey below and buy a card and pay for a monthly service, I'm sure that will come with a detailed instruction.
