Mac peripherals forum: Need a plug-in print server (like Netgear PS101v2) for Mac

I'm looking for a simple hardware unit akin to an ethernet or USB hub. The Netgear unit I mentioned can be had for about $46 shipped.

Your product is an industrial strength solution geared toward integrating Macs into an enterprise Windows architecture, and it has a minimum license of $600.

I don't know what these little guys do exactly. I would bet it's more like a protocol handshake than a server, which i would envision as housing the data - at least temporarily. But who knows? I just know i need something.

It's possible that something else entirely is screwing up the ability of my printer to talk to the Mac, but I am 92% sure it's the absence of Appletalk under 10.6.

Didn't come up in my searches at all. Looks like a good, clean, economical solution. Now tomorrow I'll find out if it's still being sold and all, but could definitely be a winner.

Best of all, the spec sheet pretty well answered my main question. I haven't had much doubt that the Netgear device would work. I was just stopped by their citing Windows in the software requirements. Since the Hawking clearly says i need either Windows or any TCP-enabled system - specifically like Mac or Unix, i'm pretty sure that all the others will work as well. i think the Windows requirement is for their install disk, which probably will try to put some dippy menu array between me and the printer.

You're probably much more able to judge, but i think they are two rather different products actually.
