iBUYPOWER

I'm looking to upgrade my PoS desktop for a $1200 max laptop. My two candidates are the Best Buy Gateway P7805u (the best low-end gaming laptop, says Dan Ackerman) or the iBUYPOWER Battalion 101 FX-924Z.

The Gateway has the better graphics card (9800GTS vs 9600GT). I also think that the iBUYPOWER has a better processor (Montevina Core 2 Duo 9550 vs Core 2 Duo P8400). All other aspects seem the same (4GB DDR3, 320GB, etc).

My only problem is the brand. I have a Gateway desktop and it's served me fairly well, and I've heard decent things about the laptop. I have never seen or heard anything about iBUYPOWER. Does anyone have a recommendation or a story about iBUYPOWER, and in general, are off-brand computers reliable or on-par with branded computers?

Sharing the stroy.

There is a member that will tell us about off brand and brand are made at the same factory but that does not tell you the horror stories of spare parts that you can't get in year 1, 2 or later. HP, Dell, even Gateway here in the states can fix the machines. The no-names pretty much have been a deliver a box to you and if you heed some door latch or "part" then you find out there are no spares.

It's your money. The no names are a gamble. Even with the names I suggest at minimum the second year warranty or longer until you accept how much it costs to repair laptops.

Have you researched how expensive laptops are to repair?

they build crap

I have a new story about HP and what they did to one of our 3 month old laptops. Seems these companies are losing it.
