laptop only suspends on second try

hi all got a weird problem. my asus eee 901 is running an nlited version of xp. things seem fine however i notice that i can only suspend my laptop on the second try. when i first press standby (via fn key) the screen goes dark for a sec, then i find that it just logged me out. when i press suspend a second try, all works fine. after that initial suspend attempt, so long as i dont restart the machine, i do not have any problems suspending. anyone have any suggestions as to how i could begin to troubleshoot this?

"nlited" = unsupportable.

Use the supplied and supportable versions of the OS from them. "nlited" may be something fun to try but no one could support that.
