HP Pavilion shuts down on its own

Ive been having this problem for the past few weeks. My laptop shuts down on its own usually during or after playing a video game or watching a video. I do not do these for extensive periods of time, maybe after half an hour of playing a game or watching a video. The screen fades out and after about 2 seconds the power just turns off and I have to turn the computer back on. I notice the part under my laptop is quite hot every time after it shuts down, so I'm guessing it has something to do with the graphics card heating up, but thats odd because I have never had this problem for the past 2 years of using this laptop, and I've played games on it for over a few hours, but I haven't done that for awhile even since before this problem started. Any ideas what else might be the cause of it? I do have the most recent graphics driver. My notebook model is HP Pavilion dv2098ea. Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.

If you haven't cleaned the dust from the CPU's cooling system, that's where to start. It might mean opening up the laptop but you can try directing stream of compressed air into the vent ports first. If a cloud of dust emerges, there's a good chance you've discovered the source of the overheating. This method might get you by for a while but dust will accumulate on the fan blades and reduce it's efficiency. The only way to fully clean them is to expose them first.
