Toshiba satellite memory upgrade

More RAM
I have a Toshiba Satellite P25-S520 with 512MB of RAM. I use speech recognition (Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 9.5) extensively and want to improve the performance. From what I have read 4 GB of RAM is necessary if I wished to use speech recognition and another program such as Microsoft Word at the same time. What memory should I get? Do I have to install it myself (I'm a complete novice).

L2 Cache
As I have been doing my research, I've seen a recommendation for 4 GB of memory in the L2 cache. I am only vaguely aware of what an L2 cache is however, I would be interested in upgrading. Can I upgrade my Toshiba satellite L2 cache, if so how?

is totally overkill, Windows will never use it. Don't waste your money. Two Gig at the most.

Go here http://www.crucial.com/ and input the PC specs. It'll tell you exactly what fits and the cost. Install yourself? Do you have a small phillips screwdriver? That's all it takes. Remove the memory door on the bottom, insert the RAM, and close it up.

Your suggestion for 2 GB of RAM was spot on. As you suggested I went to http://www.crucial.com/ and discovered that the maximum amount of RAM for my laptop is 2 GB. I was also found Illustrated instructions for upgrading the RAM (http://www.fonerbooks.com/laptop_2.htm) and it does not look like it is beyond my capability. I had been considering buying a new laptop with lots of RAM however, my desire for a shiny new toy does not justify the expense. I'll upgrade the RAM on my current laptop and then if it doesn't perform adequately THEN I'll buy a new toy. Thanks again for your help.
