ODM Brands Saeger and Compal

Hello,
My Laptop purchase search went from looking at HP and Dell to checking out ODM units that Saeger and Compal offers.

I have been looking at them thru online stores PowerNotebooks.com and
WMwave.

has anybody had any experience with these brands and/or shopping thru these sites? and suggestions or alternatives are appreciated..

Yes I've had 2 Sagers.

In fact the one I'm typing on now is a Sager 5710 now. I have a 4780 also and it still works fine. I purchased both from Discount Laptops but I've heard good things about Powernotebooks. Google Sager and you should get information on them. They are mainly gaming machines that are manufactured by Clevo (OEM). Sager is one of the few ODM's in the US. The Rock laptop sold in Europe is the same laptop as Sager. I had to get the 4780 serviced once while it was under warranty. I shipped it back to the factory in California. I had to pay shipping out and they paid to ship it back. The graphics card ATI graphics card went bad and because it was integrated the mobo had to be replaced.is My 5710 is approaching 3 years old and has never needed to be serviced.

Compal is a OEM like Clevo. The Sager 2090 is made by Compal. The 2090 is a popular laptop among Sager fans. Clevo in the last year has concentrated on the bigger screen laptops (17" to 20") and Sager started selling the Compal 2090 (15.4 screen).

In the US states and Canada I dealt with these and found spare parts to be nearly impossible to obtain. Be sure that you know where the service centers are and how long repairs will take.

Any Sager gets repaired at the factory

in California. They other Clevo made laptop companies are Prostar,Eurocom (which is in Canada) and you can get barebones from RJTech which you have more flexibility in components used to build these machines. They refused to sell spares so you were forced to send to the factory for what could be a fast and cheap repair. Remember that I or my cohorts are former missile designers and more. It seems strange that parts were not available.

These no-names are worth discussing at length about all the run-ins I've had over more than 15 years. I can't recommend them.

None of the dealers of Sagers build the laptops or

repair them. They are ordered through the dealer and ordered and shipped from Sager. Thats the way they do business. Rj Tech is different but they don't aren't associated with Sager. They sell the Clevo barebones. I never had a motherboard go bad out of warranty so I really don't know about those parts but I haven't seen complaints about on the forums that are dedicated for Sager users. I have never seen a complaint at all about not having parts.
