Looking for New Multimedia Laptop

I was just wondering if I could get some recommendations on a new multimedia laptop that I'm considering to buy. I use my laptop at home to mostly surf the web, access and prepare complex ms office docs (spreadsheets, large word documents, powerpoint), create web content (dreamweaver), large image editing (with photoshop), and occasional gaming. I've been an avid IBM thinkpad user for the last 5 years (currently have a T42P) and am very satisfied with the thinkpad's fit and finish (great keyboard, quality screen, and robust build quality). However, I have never been extremely please with performance. Is the new generation of thinkpads worth a look (T61/T61P)? Are there other comparable laptops that offer better performance? My price range is $1800-$2400.
