laptop screen

Hi, i have a 15.4" screen on my laptop. Its a widescreen, so when i put a wallpaper i find in the internet, its like squashed and very wide. (u know what i mean)
I know you can get special wallpapers for widescreen, but i dont like them. I like to get wallpapers from google.
I want to know if theres anyway to adjust the pictures so they can fit well on the screen.
Ive tried changing the picture to 1280x720 pixels on photoshop but its still squashed.
Please i need help. I like to change my screensavers a lot. happy

Change the resolution. . .

On the desktop, not a photo editor. Right click, Properties, settings. Change the resolution to the max recommended for the screen. My 19'' widescreen (desktop) likes 1440 X 900.
