how do you choose a laptop for recoridng audio

hey guys
I'm a muso on the move and would like to set up a portable studio based around a laptop(PC) with minimal outboard gear that can handle from dance tracks to Nora Jones kinda audio thing with vocals and guits. etc.
I'm just looking for a quality compact setup that i can then just finish in a bigger studio and not have to redo everything again
I'm sure you've covered this question many times,
how do i go about choosing a laptop thats going to give me the least headaches(((pc ,mac)

Let me just number a few points.

1. All laptop audio systems are less than what an audiophile would want.

Almost all have subpar performance in the recording area. To work around this, some external box may be fitted which the most common may be the Extigy by Creative Labs.

2. PC or Mac.

Sorry, but I am agnostic. If I every found a reason for each platform, that's the one I use.

3. If you just want to mix it up and not do home theater or better quality playback, maybe the Garage Band would do?
