Keyboard Failure

Just trying to find out the problem of some of the keys on the keyboard of my HP PIII 900 not working suddenly.
These being the G-H and return key?

To top it all the hard disk decided enough is enough and refused to work, on re-boot the message just says no operating system found.

Checked the BIOS this also declined to find a hard drive?

Is this some virus or has 2 years been the lifespan of this machine?

If one can boot a dos diskette, a test of the keyboard can happen. As to the no OS found, repairs to the OS vary with the OS, so post in the OS Forum of choice.

BUT... "Checked the BIOS this also declined to find a hard drive?" pretty much tells us it's time to open it up and see if the hard disk is plugged in and spinning.

2 years? My bet is that it's closer to 3, but laptops are notorious for 18 month batteries, and 2 to 3 year lifespans. Of course a trip to the repair shop fixes the machine and would you consider a repair to be the end of the laptop?
