Processor Speed 3.2 Pentium 4 vs. Sony Intel Pentium M 1.73

With Sony, what does Pentium M mean? Is it another way of saying Centrino?

Is Sony's Intel Pentium M 1.73GHz processor as fast as a Pentium 4 3.2GHz processor?

Centrino=Package (processor, chipset,etc..)

No way not as fast

The 1.73 GHz pentium m is not nearly as fast as the 3.2 GHz pentium 4. The pentuim 4 is a desktop processor, and the pentium m (mobile) was designed as a laptop processor. The higher the clock speed (or MHz/GHz) the faster the processor. A 3.6 GHz processor is faster than a 3.0 GHz processor. A dual-core 3.0 GHz processor is faster than the 3.6 GHz single-core. Dual-core means 2 cpu's on the same motherboard.

Benchmarks have already proven that they are just as fast. Pentium 4s are faster in multitasking because of HT. Clock speed IS DEFINITELY NOT THE WAY TO GO ANYMORE. Proof-AMD and Intel's future plans. [A dual-core 3.0 GHz processor is faster than the 3.6 GHz single-core.] is not true. Not in gaming, for gaming, higher clock speeds help. and as of now, not that much multi-threaded applications

I know Pentium M 1.6 is comparable to P4 3.0.

Burnning laps.

Sorry, but the experiences of full bore P4 laptops have not been kind ones. The owners in year 2 or 3 find the tanks mired in issues of no battery time and singed thighs. The stories can be horrid so from now on I will pan the desktop P4 in a laptop.

Besides battery and heat issues, the machines seem far too unstable as they age.

You don't want it.
