laptop buyer help

ok

i need a laptop that is:

good for games
light video editing
playing music
watch dvds
has a big screen
for running maybe 7 applications at a time (max
is light enough to carry (around house, on plane etc.)

that is under 1800$

Running 7 applications at a time??? How intense are those apps? I'd say compaq r4000 or dell 6000 if you don't need good for games and for running 7 apps. If you want 7 apps, you would only have a choice of either the hp zd8000 or alienwares 700m, or any notebook that has a Pentium 4 with HT, (none with the 533Mhz FSB). As for good gaming, no notebook will give you a really good gaming experience. The best gfx card for mobile notebooks are the x800, 6800go, 6800ultrago. The dell 9300 will meet your requirements and good gaming, but no 7 apps, i'd say this is your best fitting choice and mose expensive.

maybe like some IE's some basic programs

also it needs to be portable enought to carry around with a good battery life

and yes i do need to play 2D games and some light 3D games on it

If basic programs, you don't need a Pentium 4. As for good battery life, than Pentium M. The dell 9300 has the 6800go, good gfx card and good processors. But, the R4000 would also be a good choice for a cheaper price, and can acccomplish your tasks. Also the 64-bit athlons look good. However, the gfx are the ati 200m gfx, which is based on the x300se. I have an x300se, which isn't bad and can run bf2 on pretty good settings.

For BF2, it aint' the best. Besides, you wrote light gaming. If you want best, get 9300. Guaranteed good.
