Answer Best answer as chosen by user TomBeth Re: fatal error with Avast.
Sorry to say, but no.
I've twice installed Avast 6 this last week on the same PC (after 2 clean installs of Windows 7, that's why) and after the second one it came with an update to Avast 7, which makes 2.5 install. All went as fine as it used to go the last 4 years.
If you decide to repost on our Avast forum, be sure to tell more. It isn't even clear now if the error occurs during the install or only afterwards. Your subject line says "on installation", but your post mentions "remove", which only can be done after a succesfull install. And be sure to tell more about the errors.
For the free version there's no support. But I read consistently good stories about Avira, one of the other well-known free programs. So if that installs correctly, not much is lost for you.
The only unusual thing with Avast 7, by the way, is that - when I installed a program it didn't know and had doubts about - it proposes to do it in the sandbox. You have to say "no (I trust the program, it's a good program, I've used for several years already, it's just a reinstall on a new OS), so please add it to your whitelist" and restart the install. I've never had that with Avast 6 (nor with Avast 5, because that didn't have a sandbox). But that might have been because I'd never installed that same programs with Avast 6 active. Once you know this behavior you might even appreciate it, because it IS a protection.
