Unable to register Avast or connect to www.avast.com

I downloaded Avast from CNET this morning to my IBM T41 running XP. All appeared fine until I attempted to register, I see no results to clicking the Register Now button, and I still see "Not yet registered" displayed. The 3 options in Avast.Help (Support Center, Forum-register, and Submit a ticket) each return "This program cannot display the web page" Unplugged Wild Blue modem, router and rebooted laptop. No change to the above. I am unable to connect to www.avast.com, although I have no problem connecting to other sites and my7 wife can connect to www,avast.com on her computer. She has Avast installed from years ago and is connected via the same router.
