Anti virus/spyware/malware/etc.

On Jan. 1,2012 my free anti spyware/anti malware program (Counterspy) will no longer be available by itself. Will my free anti- virus program (Avast) be adequate to protect me? I am using the latest free version of Zone Alarm for my firewall.

Opinions and supporting details are welcome. confused

Avast Should Be fine

With Zone Alarm FW and Avast free, I think you will be fine. I would encourage MBAM (Malwarebytes-Antimalware) which is "on demand" protection but one of the best ways to remove malware and it's free. I would be comfortable with that set-up, and of course, always use common sense! Good luck! grin

Thanks for the feedback especially regarding MBAM. I had been having a problem for about 3 weeks whereas I went from my portal page (Mymyway.com)to pages of interest and found certain words were highlighted in green with a double underline beneath it. If I hover over some of the green words a bubble would appear with a advertisement in it. On some other green words hovering did not cause a bubble to appear but clicking on it would take me to a advertisement. Neither Counterspy or Avast found the problem over the 3 week period. MBAM fixed it! Yippee!

I am keeping MBAM in my arsenal!

MBAM and avast! are meant to work together. They compliment each other. They both are specialists in their own field.
Just as you don't go to a Gynecologist to fix a problem with your foot, You shouldn't expect your Anti Virus program to rid your computer of all the Malware.
Your AV's main job is to protect you against a virus attacks or rootkits and a lot of other virus related nasties.
