Avast forum: Thank You Thank You Thank You!

I have 5 computers on a LAN running Avast Internet security 6, Three with Windows 7 and 2 with XP pro. I have the firewall set to home (the lowest setting ) and Windows firewall is still running.. Avast unlike other Firewall doesn't turn off Windows Firewall. Because I know just what Windows Firewall allows through I am advsrese to turning off the Windows Firewall. Windows tells me I shouldn't turn their firewall off . Any suggestions, and should I run both Firewalls as doing this for the last 3 months has not created any problems.

Just to set the record straight, both the avast! and the Windows Firewall can be turned off.


Neither have to be turned off because they work very well together.

That's why colo39 hasn't run into any problems on any of his computers even though he was using both Firewalls at the same time..

I definitely would not try running any other two firewalls together because they will cause a conflict.

As a general rule, you should only have one Firewall and one Resident Anti Virus program on your system.

If ZoneAlarm is 'compatible', why change from Avast?

The general rule is, only one firewall, so no need for another one

You can run with both firewalls, as Avast Internet Security was designed to run with Windows Firewall (with others, not a good practice). It seems unusual but that was explained early on at the Avast forum. I haven't had any issues with it either way. Thanks
