How do I resolve my TR81 Hi8 camcorder playback issue?

The playback mode stopped working.
The tape transport is working as is the footage counter.
I cleaned the heads, powered the unit off then back on, changed the lithium CR25 battery,checked the camera mode and it is operating properly. The unit was working fine for the first tape but stopped working for the second tape. I re-inserted the first tape that played back OK origionally in the camcorder however no image displays upon playback.
