Sony Bravia TV Picture Problems, Need Some Help

I have a Sony Bravia TV (model KDL-46W4100) and recently it started having these colored squares and distortions in the picture. It only changes the color of the area, the picture coming from the movie/video game/cable is fine. I cant find the same problem like this on my search of the internet but maybe someone has seen or experienced this and has some advice on how to fix it.

Looks like a classic board failure.

The one with the decoder and RAM on it. While these are no TV repair forums your TV repair person will likely change out the big board in the set.

Colored squares

Yes, I had the similar problem with my Sony Bravia, although the colored squares were visible all the time. Technician came out and diagnosed it as a panel failure. Replacing the panel costs more than the TV did new. TV was 2.5 years old when squares appeared.

It sounds like an optical block problem sony has an optical block replacement program email your info to sonylistens@am.sony.com

I've owned the same Sony Bravia KDL-46W4100 for three years. In fact I own two. Six months ago I started getting one square / rectangle of discoloration. Then two. Now there's tons. I've done the full firmware upgrade and it didn't solve the problem. Like the previous poster, is there anything I can do? Is it worth having someone come by and see if they can fix it? Or is the cost not worth the repair and I should just get a new television?

I have a Bravia KLV 46W410A , 2 1/2 years usage with absolutely the same problem. I think 2 and 1/2 years usage is to little an usable life for a tv set, and ,worse, for a Sony top ranked model!! I will have a visit of a service man tomorrow and I will let you know his diagnoses.

I completely agree. Please let me know what the service man tells you. I posted a similar question on JustAnswer.com and got the following response:

"Hello, I have seen this a few times. The problem with the unit is the T-Con board that is on the panel that time controls the video information to the panel.Cheapest to take it to a repair shop price hard to tell price $350-$450. You would need to get a estimate before repair. For someone to come by for a service call price 80-125+ dollars?There are two different versions of your tv and the part link I provided below is just for one of them.http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=185727311"

I'm torn on if I should have someone try to come by and fix it, or just get a new television. I think you can probably get something similar for $750-1,000 these days. I had always bought Sony, but after this experience I think I might consider trying Samsung. All my friends have those and love them. No problems.
