Sony forum: Back up

The reviews for all externals are not great. For now, for today, externals are fine copies but not backup. To achieve backup we need no less than 3 copies and one copy off location.

Many have forgotten this and why this is so. At least the internet has articles on this.

Given that external drives are not backup and are not that reliable we have to move forward to secure what we can't lose. I suggest you put what you can't lose on DVD and then look to those USB drives for the next copy of the rest.

The details are not in your post. Let me ignore that and share that I use CDBURNERXP to put files onto CD/DVDRW media. As to instructions I know such is out on the internet so I won't duplicate how to use CDBURNERXP (a free app by the way.)

If you want more ideas on backup, my ideas are from experience. I do not use any backup program. I've found these to fail over time so I simply copy my stuff to CD/DVD/HDD using Explore or, a CD/DVD recording program and for an entire HDD image I use CLONEZILLA.
