System Recovery on a Sony Vaio

I am trying to do a full system recovery on a Sony Vaio PCG-FXA36 that was given to me. I completed the all the steps up to the part where after disk 3 it asks to put disk one back in. I did that and now all that comes up is a Z: PROMPT. Unsure how to fix it so I can get windows back on my system. Any help?

I had a friend this happened to. Turns out they had some USB drive connected. Unplug all things USB and "one more time."

I followed your instructions and removed the USB device(wireless mouse). As soon as I did that my computer started normally. Who would have thought that having a wireless mouse attached to my laptop would have caused all this trouble for me? Thank you very much for solving my problem.

This nugget has paid off hundreds of times. But I must share that I've encountered a few folk that would not unplug some USB device because they thought it would not help. I fear that most of those end up with a fat repair bill.

Could give you a big hug Bob. I tried to boot up my old, incredibly reliable, VAIO RA 830G that I use for video playback today and got the 'disk boot failure' message. I get perhaps one error message a year on this machine, so this was an event. Couldn't find the system recovery disc etc.

Found your post, pulled out every USB connector, rebooted - perfect.

You're the man! Thanks so much.
