Rolling Back HP Envy 4-1130us To Win 7

Here's my problem:
I have several Win XP programs that will not run in either Win 7 or 8 - one is a multi-gig of data e-mail app that does not hook into the Registry. On my 7 machine they run perfectly in Virtual Box and VB recoginses any USB device I care to use.
My HP Envy 4-1130us ultrabook came with Win 8 and Virtual Box boggles my mind with its instructions for recognising USB devices & network.
I'd like to roll-back the HP Envy 4-1130us to Win 7. I have the install disc which keeps asking for the installation of a non- specific driver - which I assume is for the Raid configuration of the drives.
I've D/L'ed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver, un-zipped it, saved it to a flash drive, pointed 7 install to it and it basically laughs at me!
Before someone recommends another virtual machine app I've looked at them all and they're a nightmare to set-up even for this fairly sophisticated ole geek.
Can anyone offer any sensible suggestions for 'downgrading' [I resent that pejorative - my machine and I want to run whatever OS on it I want!] to Win 7
