Pavillion dv6t-7000 can't create a VHD for a dual boot win 7

I just purchased an Hp Pavillion dv6t-7000, CTO Enterntainment notebook PC. I want to take space from the C drive and create a virtual hard disk.

Disk 0 is sectioned as follows:

System:

199 MB NTFS; System Active, Primary Partition
C: 678.60 GB NTFS; Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition
Recovery D: 21.53 GB NTFS; Healthy Primary

I would like to take 50gb from C: and create a virtual hard drive to install windows 8 to have a dual-boot system. Can someone point me to a credible link that describes how to do this or share the solution? I have tried a process described at TechRepublic where you create a VHD, then boot to Windows 8, shft f10 into an admin window and try to use diskpart to select the vdisk file which does not exist, ie., i can't find it.

Is there something else I need to do? Can I do this through the disk manager?

When I create a VHD that's just a file on the host system. I never needed to use any partition tool or app.

However if you are trying to use HyperV then that's a whole other story. And since you have an OEM OS such may not be supported (I'm going with it is not supported.)

To do this HyperV and more I bet you need a full retail OS and more.

Why not put Windows 8 in a virtual machine for now?

Also, if you want a dual boot to Windows 8, since there is no retail WIndows 8 yet (just OEM) you find yourself out on a limb with no support.

I strongly suggest you put 8 into a VM first.

I am running windows 7 64 bit which VM?

Which virtual machine software should i Use? Hyper-V in googling seems to only work with Windows 8. I don't think it works with windows 7. Do you know that it does in fact work on Windows 7. Just trying to save some time. thanks

Virtual Box on 7.
Oracle's VMWare on 7.

The method you noted is not one I've seen work yet.
