HP Pavilion Notebook dv9408nr - Nonstop Self-Reboot

Hi everyone,

My HP Pavilion Notebook dv9408nr running Windows Vista Home Premium is rebooting itself constantly.

I turn the power button on, all blue LEDs come on, as well as fans (which are relatively clean) and the screen remains black, and then it reboots itself within a few seconds.
I have tried safemode, and getting into the bios, as well as taking the internal battery out and AC and holding the power button, then attempting to reboot again. I have also checked the RAM to make sure it's not loose.

This is my mothers' laptop and she gave it to me to try and fix. I'm stumped, though it seems to be a common HP problem. She says she put it to sleep, went to boot it this morning and this is what took place.

Any ideas?

The dv6000 and dv9000 series did have problems You can google that but the usual fix is to replace the main board but that issue may return.

But let's say it's not that issue. Did you recover their files (I pull the HDD out) and reload the OS?

She doesn't keep anything on it of any value. Just some programs, so there was nothing she wanted to be recovered. I have not reloaded the OS - she received the notebook from a friend with no disks, and I'm purchasing those now in case I can find no immediate fix to get a proper boot cycle into the OS.

Anything else you think I can try for right now?

It's available for free, now and can run from CD or USB with no need to format the machine.

Usually can get on the internet and more with that.
